Assist. Prof. Vlatko Smiljanić, PhD is a university teacher and scientist at the Department of Croatology and acting vice-dean for business at the Faculty of Croatian Studies at the University of Zagreb. He is the editor-in-chief of the scientific journal Croatology (a1/a2).
He was born on July 7, 1995 in Virovitica, where he attended elementary school and high school. He completed his History studies at the Faculty of Croatian Studies of the University of Zagreb in 2020. During his studies, he was a student-demonstrator, holder of a scholarship for the excellence of the Virovitica-Podravina County and winner of student awards such as the Rector's Award (2020), Dean's Award (2020), Principal's Award (2018) and several Principal's awards. He is the author of two books and co-author of one book, as well as several editorial books and collections of scientific papers in the field of Croatology and history. Also, he often contributes to scientific and professional works on historical and Croatian topics. He obtained the academic title of Doctor of Science in 2023 by defending his doctoral thesis The Life and Works of Mirko Danijel Bogdanić from 1760 to 1802 under the mentorship of academician Stjepan Ćosić with the highest grade (summa cum laude).
From 2020 to 2024, he worked as an expert associate in the field of history at the Scientific Institute, after which on April 15, 2024, he was employed as an assistant professor at the Department of Croatian Studies, Faculty of Croatian Studies, University of Zagreb. He has been the editor-in-chief of the scientific journal Kroatologija since November 28, 2024.
From July 9, 2024 to October 31, 2024, he served as assistant rector and acting dean for business, and from November 1, 2024, by decision of the Faculty Council, he was appointed acting vice dean for business at the Faculty of Croatian Studies, University of Zagreb.
