On October 1, 2024, the Faculty of Croatian Studies at the University of Zagreb hosted a delegation from the Swiss Confederation. The delegation of twelve teachers from Switzerland was led by Ms. Margret Scherrer, a lecturer at the Bern University of Teacher Education (Pädagogische Hochschule Bern), and Ms. Mija Rajič, the coordinator of Croatian Education in Switzerland and a teacher of Croatian language and culture. Ms. Scherrer organized the visit to the Republic of Croatia and the Faculty of Croatian Studies within the framework of the Action.bildung.erleben association, which conducts Job Shadowing projects (under the patronage of Movetie, the Swiss counterpart of Erasmus) aimed at familiarizing Swiss teachers with the educational system of their students' home countries, and fostering a better understanding of the culture and heritage of their students and their families.
The Faculty of Croatian Studies was represented by Assistant Professor Wollfy Krašić, the Rector’s Assistant with the authority of Vice-Dean for International Cooperation, Associate Professor Rona Bušljeta Kardum, Assistant Professor Sandra Car, Assistant Professor Monika Komušanac, Tamara Bodor (Ph.D.), Assistant Professor Antonia Ordulj, and Lidija Bogović (Ph.D.).
The Swiss guests were welcomed by Assistant Professor Wollfy Krašić and Associate Professor Rona Bušljeta Kardum from the Department of Educational Sciences. Assistant Professor Sandra Car, Associate Professor Rona Bušljeta Kardum, and Assistant Professor Monika Komušanac gave a presentation on the topic “Overview of the Educational System of the Republic of Croatia.” In their presentation, they introduced the educational system of the Republic of Croatia, covering all levels from preschool to higher education.
Special guests at the meeting included Branka Biketa Caktaš, a pedagogue at the Ciciban Kindergarten (Bjelovar), Anamarija Tuškan, a pedagogue (and former two-term principal) at Mirko Pereš Primary School (Kapela), and Mirela Balešić Jović, a history teacher from the Fourth Gymnasium (Zagreb). In the form of a workshop, these colleagues presented examples of best practices to the Swiss teachers.
The meeting concluded with a discussion about the potential for a cooperation agreement between the Faculty of Croatian Studies at the University of Zagreb, the Department of Educational Sciences, and the Pädagogische Hochschule Bern.
