The purpose of the undergraduate study programme in history (single major) is to analyse the causal relationships between historical processes. Over a six-semester period students will have developed the ability to critically reflect on and analyse the fundamental characteristics of historical periods, historical sources and research papers. Students are required to participate in working groups, whose aim is to apply the concepts in question and incorporate these into a seminar paper which must be prepared independently, using recommended sources. Students are thus encouraged to conduct independent research of historical literature and develop the skills of critical reflection and argumentation. During the first year of the programme students will have acquired the ability to define fundamental concepts associated with ancient and medieval history, as well as the ability to independently analyse historical texts of the period. During the second year of the undergraduate study programme students acquire fundamental concepts in modern history. During the third year of the programme, students expand their knowledge of modern and contemporary history. The bachelor thesis is written during the sixth semester.
