As part of the project Days of the Croatian Language, Culture, and Emigration Issues in the Swiss Confederation, funded by the Central State Office for Croats Abroad, project leader Associate Professor Rona Bušljeta Kardum, along with Lidija Bogović, Ph.D., and Assistant Professor Monika Komušanac, visited Zurich in the Swiss Confederation from November 5 to November 9, 2024.
The project activities commenced on November 6, 2024, with workshops conducted by Lidija Bogović, Ph.D., for two groups of students attending Croatian Supplementary Education in Urdorf. These workshops, of a linguistic-educational nature, were tailored to the heterogeneous groups of students, accounting for their varying levels of proficiency in the Croatian language. Additionally, the students completed an anonymous survey to express their opinions and attitudes regarding the learning of the Croatian language and culture.
Monika Komušanac, conducted a survey-based study on the specific characteristics of Croatian Supplementary Education in the Swiss Confederation from the teachers' perspective. The survey aimed to identify current challenges in the teaching process and explore potential avenues for improvement.
On November 7, 2024, the project leader, Associate Professor Rona Bušljeta Kardum, delivered a lecture titled Strategies for Active and Collaborative Learning in Teaching for teachers of Croatian Supplementary Education in Switzerland. The lecture, held at the Croatian Supplementary Education Center in Switzerland, was attended by teachers and the coordinator of Croatian Supplementary Education in Switzerland, Ms. Mija Rajič, as well as Estera Šimić, Senior Advisor from the Ministry of Science, Education, and Sports of the Republic of Croatia.
The engagement with the teachers of Croatian Supplementary Education concluded with an informal gathering, during which knowledge and experiences were exchanged, and relevant discussions were held on the topics and challenges presented.
The Days of the Croatian Language, Culture, and Emigration Issues in the Swiss Confederation project successfully achieved its primary objective: fostering interdisciplinary connections aimed at preserving and maintaining the Croatian national identity within the diaspora.
